How To Remove a Background With Photoshop CC ( Easiest WAY )

For this one we're gonna take a look at the quickest way to remove a background. From our image using a one click selection. Now I know what you may be thinking one-click selection It may not be as accurate or might look rushed the edges might look rough. But we're actually going to look at quality and speed so we're going to do both at the same time. So it's not just rough edges or quickly cropped out. The only thing about this is you will need the latest version of Photoshop So you will need Photoshop 2020 to be able to do this. Once you've got yourself into Photoshop You want to open it up and you want to get yourself an image.

If you don't already have an image you can go to file and open And that works just the same or you could just simply drag it into Photoshop and get yourself an image. Now that we've got ourself an image, what you want to do is you want to hold ALT And scroll up to zoom into the image. to get to the tool You want to go down to the fourth tool down and this is the Object Selection Tool. if you right click on it It will be in here So it'll be together with the quick selection tool and the magic wand. if you don't see it straight away Then you could just right click on in it should be in there. The other way is to press W on your keyboard. So if you want to you can press W and that will bring it up. Once you've got the object selection tool selected, you'll need to know a few things before you actually use it So just like before like I mentioned in my previous videos, you will need to know the options that you have available. So if you don't know these tools then I will quickly go over them. So you have the first one the first one is a single selection which means you can only have a Singular selection. You cannot edit it. You cannot subtract or do anything with it. So that is the first one.

The second one is all about adding on to the current selection So if you wanted to we can add more or you could take away or you could keep on editing The selection as many times as you want. The third option is all about subtract. So it's all about taking away. if you wanted to you can take away from the selection just by going around the areas that you don't want or you want to remove from your selection. and the very last one is all about a custom shape inside of the image that you have so if you wanted to you can create yourself a box and that will only select the areas inside of that box. And it will get rid of all the other selections and it will only keep that box. So with the modes you have rectangular and a manual lasso tool. with the rectangular tool this will allow you to create a box around the object that you want to select and then of course the Lasso tool is all about freehand selection. So you can pretty much go around the selection You want it to select. We're going to use the rectangular one and then moving on to the next options that you have available.

This is completely up to you. If you wanted to you can turn on auto enhance or you can have object subtract Which is the one I use I like to use the object subtract because it allows me to quickly swap over between plus and minus. And finally, we have two more buttons at the end. So the first one is select subject This is a one-click selection If you click this the computer will pretty much try to guess what the object is that you want it to select. So with the rectangular mode Let's say you had multiple people in the image or you have more people or objects that you want to select. All you got to do with the object selection one Is left click and drag yourself a box around the object. and this will pretty much Detect what it is that you are trying to select. So just like the quick selection tool it may not be as accurate and it may not get every single bit in And this is when we can pretty much edit the selection. Now like I mentioned before the object selection tool is tied in with the quick selection tool and the magic wand. So if we wanted to we can quickly switch over to the quick selection tool And then turn this into a minus and then take away from here. Or we can Add on to it, so if we wanted to include it into the image, so as you can see We've just added it back on. If you wanted to do you can also go to the polygonal lasso tool and that one will let you edit it as well. [music] At the moment the glasses aren't in a but I'm not too fussed about that because I will fix that Once we start to edit it a little bit more. Once you've selected most of your image or the object that you want it to select. All you got to do is you've got to go to select and mask. This option will only appear if you are in the selection options, so if you are in the select Or the object selection tool. If you're in the other tools, it won't appear.

So you need to make sure you are selecting the object selection tool. Once you've selected it, you go to select and mask and this will bring you to this window right here. Things are a little bit more different now, you will have some options. Yours will be on the right side but I've moved mine over to the left side So it's easy to see. We're going to get ourselves the refine edge tool and then we're gonna fix up the hair So as you can see the hair isn't looking so good at the moment. It is quite rushed. So what we're going to do is, you can increase the size by pressing the square bracket on your keyboard. And then we're going to go around the hair like so. And as you can see, it's already starting to remove the white areas. It will also bring back any other hair So as you can see when we get to this hair down here, it will bring it back into the image. And there we go, that is not looking too bad. If you wanted to you can show edges only so this will preview the edges So this is what we've done. So what we're going to do now is we're going to edit this a little bit more and we're going to un-tick this and then Get rid of these glasses right here. Now. The reason I've done it like this is because I could have gotten rid of it before but as you can see We've still got a little bit of a fog effect on to it, so I did remove it But because I've refined it it looks a lot better than if we was to fully remove it. So that's not looking too bad at the moment. I'm going to fix the forehead a little bit as well right there. It's looking a bit rough. So as you can see, it's already started to make it smoother and a little bit there as well. We are also going to go around the beard and the bits around there like so. Go around it. You can also apply it to the top.

It will give it that effect of a jumper or a sweater, whichever one you prefer to call it. So that's not looking too bad at the moment we can once again show the edges. We're also going to do it here as well. And yes so far it's looking not too bad we can also preview what it would look like originally so as you can see before and then this is after. a lot better than before. You can also have high quality preview if you wanted to. you can turn down the opacity you can also change the color if you wanted to so, for example, if we want the background color to be let's say blue Or we can have it as a white. Dark color, you can have it. Whatever you prefer. You could change it in here. You have some other options as well. So you have the radius, smooth, feather, contrast and soft edge or Shift edges*. should i say, my bad. What these options do is these will determine whether you want to sharpen your edges. So for example if you had some rough edges You can get yourself a radius of how much you want it to apply. You can get yourself how much you want it to smoothen out the edges. You can give it a little bit of a feather so you can pretty much play about with the feather and the sharpness To achieve what you are looking for and then you also have contrast as well. at the moment is not looking too bad I'm quite happy with what it looks like. I think there's a little bit down here that I missed So I'm going to fix that up as you can see. There's that little bit of a white area. You have some other options here, if you wanted to so the freehand tool you can move around the image. You have the zoom tool right here. So a magnify. The lasso tool so if you wanted to wrap around the object or other areas. And like I mentioned before because we are editing this live we can always re-add bits. So as you can see This is the quick selection tool.

If we wanted to, we can easily add some bits into it as you can see, but that's not going to look very good. So I'm going to press CTRL + Z to undo or CTRL + Z. So I'm pretty happy with this at the moment. I am now ready to Save as a layer. To save this as a layer All you got to do is go down to where it says output to and then I like to set it as a new layer. And then once you've set is a new layer, you can then go ahead and press ok. and the background will pretty much be masked. So now it's completely gone. You'll still have your original one as you can see underneath it. But, your new one will be right there. If we have a look at the bits that we've just removed it's looking pretty good. Some edges may be a bit soft. So as you can see right here. But to fix this all you got to do is press CTRL + J. and then this will get yourself another copy of it and this will make it a little bit more solid around the edges. Or the bits where you've done. So I'm quite happy with that. What I'm going to do is I'm going to merge these two together. so if you go to convert smart object, and if you wanted to you can rasterize as layer. To put this back into a normal layer so you can edit it. Alright so let's say you want to add yourself another background. All you got to do is simply get yourself another background. Left-click and drag it into Photoshop and then now you've got yourself a background. Now the next thing would be to make sure you scale it correctly. So what I mean by this is you need to make sure that your object and your picture is the same size. Otherwise It's just going to look a bit odd, and that's what makes it look more realistic. So if we double left-click on it, and then obviously once you've applied it. You can also hold ALT, on the edges and this will scale it down in the center. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to move it underneath the person. Maybe if we move the Image a little bit further down to the background make him a little bit taller. from the angle where it's being shot from. The next thing that you want to do if you want it to look more realistic is.. Make sure you correct the lighting. So you want to give it some lighting and you also want to give it the correct colour. Which the environment its in. So you want to match the background with the object. So at the moment what we can do is we can hold CTRL. And then click on the thumbnail to select the person and then we can go to the adjustments. If you don't have adjustments open you can go to window and then go down to.. Adjustments or right at the top, right there. Now I've got mine a little bit more separate So your should be the same but yours will most likely pop on the right side of the screen. So what we're going to do is we're going to get ourself a brightness and contrast. and then Try to match it with the scene of the background. So I'm going to, give a bit more contrast. Turn the brightness up slightly. The only thing with this is obviously because we've messed about with the brightness and contrast with lost some color so we will need to hold CTRL click on the person again go to the adjustments, get yourself a hue and saturation. Then increase the saturation a little bit more. So we gain that color once again.

Next thing that I'm going to do is I'm also going to Do it one more time and then create a new layer on top of that one. Once we've got ourself a new layer we can then go ahead and get ourself the brush tool. Make the size a little bit smaller. And then we're going to go with a white colour. Next up you will need to find where the light source is so by looking at your image You want to try to track down Where abouts the light is coming from because once you've got the lighting you will know where to Give it the correct shading and make sure you get the right areas. Yeah, so from my image, it looks like it's coming from the left side of the screen. So around here or around the top. So I'm pretty much going to give it a little bit there like so. You can make it big if you wanted to. And then press CTRL + D. Now that we've applied this you want to go through the effects and see which one matches well, so we're going to.. Overlay, overlay is normally a good one, but we're going to turn it down. So turn down the opacity a little bit more. If you wanted to add some dark areas you can do the same but this time You want to create a new layer and then get yourself a black color and then give yourself some dark areas. So for example at the bottom. Right here. Press CTRL + D. And then just turn down the opacity. But at the moment there's one thing missing and that is the colours the colour is a bit off. You want to select your object one more time.

Go back to adjustments and then in here We're going to use a photo filter in the photo filter We're going to use a nice warm orange color so we can pretty much increase the intensity. So how much of it we want it to apply. So we need quite a bit for the scene. And yeah, that is not looking too bad. As you can see we did that really quick it was pretty much effortless We didn't have to put in a lot of work. Sometimes when you use the refine edge tool it will leave a soft white overlay. To get rid of this. All you got to do is use the eraser tool. And go around it like so. [music] Next thing to do is just to save it if you wanted to so save as..

And Then give it a name So I'm just going to leave as it is. Save it as a .PSD if you wanted to, so you can always edit it and go back to it. Press ok. And then one more time just to have it as an image. So go down to .PNG. Click save and then press ok.
